Create a Goal

Coach is a personal development tool to facilitate and document inspiring 1-on-1 meetings. Set goals in Coach to use as a starting point to kick off those important 1-on-1 discussions. Use this tool to elevate your career as an employee and coach your team up as a manager by setting effective goals, reflecting on performance, and getting (or giving) constructive feedback to improve performance every day.

Create a goal for yourself

Chances are good that your manager will assign you some goals to align each member of the team to the same objectives. However, your career also has to be driven by you and your own objectives. Create some personal goals to track the work that meets both your manager's and your own personal career aspirations.

  1. Go to the Goals page.
  2. Click New Goal in the top right and enter the goal title and description. Remember that the best goals are SMART!
  3. Add a Due date if this is a time-based goal.
  4. Click Create Goal to finish.

Your goal will now appear in your active goals list and both you and your manager will be able to add notes, update progress, complete goals, and all other actions.

Create a goal for your direct reports

If you are a leader,  creating goals for your direct reports is a great way to align your team and help guide them in the right direction for their career. As a manager, you can create a goal for your direct reports and assign it to the entire team, or to specific individuals.

Note: You must be a manager in Coach to create team goals and assign them to your direct reports. The process is very similar to creating a personal goal, with one added step at the end:

  1. Go to the Goals page.
  2. Click New Goal in the top right and enter the goal title and description. Remember that the best goals are SMART!
  3. Add a Due date if this is a time-based goal.
  4. Click on the dropdown under Select members and choose which direct reports you would like to assign this goal to.
  5. Click Create Goal to finish.
